Edwards Lifesciences Starr Atrium

GC: DPR Construction, A&D: LPA

Innovative and industry-leading life science company that specializes in manufacturing heart valves

This project at Edwards LifeScience Headquarters (one of the many we have performed on their campus) was a new construction atrium addition that connected two existing buildings in order to create an open space for ELS employees and guests. CIR worked with LPA and DPR to design and install the custom stadium wood seating area and adjacent flooring areas, complete with under-step lighting, custom stainless steel riser trim, and technical mitered finish work throughout, completed in 2017.

Edwards Lifesciences Research & Development Building

Building a space from the ground up can be both challenging and rewarding. Gensler had the confidence to refer us to Clune Construction, where we became an integral part of the new construction at the Edwards Lifesciences campus in Irvine. Driven by passion to help exceed client expectations, we worked together with Gensler and Clune to create a space that paid tribute to its occupants—passionate individuals developing state-of-the-art medical technologies to help us all live longer, healthier lives. Our success in executing this project both on-time and on-budget earned us additional projects on the Edwards campus allowing us to build a trusting relationship with the client who continues to hire us for their flooring needs.

Scan Health Plan HQ – Inner Space Constructors/Urquiza Group

When SCAN Health Plan decided to remodel multiple floors of an existing office building near the Long Beach Airport, they did so with a mission to truly change their workplace environment to meet the unique needs of their employees and foster even greater innovation. We assisted the designer early on with products to suit the vibrant, reenergized space. Our installers worked carefully with ornate, patterned carpets and varying stains of bamboo wood flooring, which required a higher level of attention to detail than an average TI installation. Together we succeeded in achieving a modern, cutting-edge workplace.

CBRE Newport Offices

As an esteemed, full-service real estate services company, CBRE needed an office space in Newport Beach that reflected their high quality of work and taste for their staff and clients alike. Howard Building Company (HBC) was hired as the General Contractor who brought us on to work alongside the design team at Gensler. We were committed to installing the floor covering to the highest of standards, which included specified broadlooms for offices and conference rooms, contemporary carpet tiles for open office areas, and luxury vinyl tile for breakout spaces, to name a few. Our team also worked around-the-clock against construction deadlines, requiring us to field-finish an engineered hardwood in an effort to match the millwork throughout the space — a challenge met with great success. Given the variety of floor finishes, we ensured smooth transitions between materials, ensuring a floor that was not only beautiful, but safe too.

LPA San Diego Offices

After a partnership spanning decades with top design firm LPA, our team jumped at the chance to help their growing staff relocate to a larger space in downtown San Diego. Moving into an old Wonder Bread factory proved to be full of challenges and opportunities to reuse the space smartly and efficiently. Former grain silos became “collaboration pods,” strategically covered with bright orange rubber tiles where employees could meet and work together under new skylights created from openings in the previous roof. Keeping — but enhancing — the existing finishes was very important to the client, so we were tasked with sealing the concrete while leaving metal manhole covers in addition to refinishing the existing hardwood floors. Coincidentally, LPA’s superb, eco-conscious remodel earned them LEED Gold Certification the same week as Earth Week, a recognition that we were honored to be a part of.

Gensler LA Offices – Inner Space Constructors/Gensler

A smart, superb ‘jewel’ built in downtown LA’s reinvigorated center Gensler now calls home

As a leading global design firm, when Gensler decided to move its Los Angeles office from Santa Monica to an existing downtown LA building, they pledged to create a 21st-century prototype of the new office workplace. Issues such as energy, cost efficiency and providing flexible work settings for employees were incredibly important to the design, construction and long-term use of the space. Designed and built within a short nine months, our team worked carefully through existing site conditions, budget concerns and a condensed schedule that required stacking crews and multiple shifts — all within a very busy downtown setting. The resulting “Jewel Box,” as it’s referred to, achieved LEED Platinum certification — a status Gensler hopes to provide to its own customers when designing corporate spaces moving forward.

Red Bull Headquarters – Space Constructors/HLW

An old printing factory is “given wings”

The bare concrete floor in this 50-year-old printing factory was saturated with years of ink spills and was never intended to receive floor covering. When the floor would get wet, the ink would bleed to the surface and pool in a rainbow of colors. First, CIR needed to address the ink issue and prep the floor. Next, CIR had to find a product that would perform successfully for the client under these conditions in this high profile space for years to come. Despite a tight schedule, CIR located readily available products that met these requirements–while remaining on schedule and leaving the environment, quality, and design of the project uncompromised.

Weingart Foundation

GC: Phoenix Construction, Architect & Design by SAA

The Weingart Foundation is a private, nonprofit grant-making foundation supporting nonprofits across Southern California, so it was our pleasure to assist them with their office relocation to The Bloc in downtown LA.. As a new tenant, they wanted to update the space to reflect their style and culture. We worked with Phoenix Construction and SAA to accomplish just that by utilizing carpet tile, custom area rugs and polished concrete, creating a sleek modern atmosphere where they could continue their philanthropic efforts.
